Self Transforming Self
by Rev. Cheryl Jewett

Who am I? Me, my self, and I… and my Higher Self. What's the difference? The self is my personal self and my personality. The Higher Self is my spiritual Self. Why is it important to understand the difference? Because my personal self has its roots in ego while the foundation of Self is Spirit. And ego gets me into much more trouble than Spirit ever could. Why? Because Spirit comes from love and light whereas ego comes from fear and darkness. My Self… my Spirit… my choice-maker. As I grow spiritually, I become more attuned to this Truth.

When the God-Spirit said man was made in His/Her image, people assumed that meant a duplication of the bodily image. However, what was really meant was that a part of each individual mind would be made in the God-Spirit's image. That is the Higher Self often spoken of, a miniature but powerful God-Mind within each individual's brain. So when Shirley MacLaine said, "I am God" in her earlier movie, "Out On A Limb", she was speaking a great truth. Dr Wayne Dyer, author of many spiritual books, affirms this as does Neale Donald Walsch, author of "Conversations with God", Gary Zukav and Louise Hay, just to name a few other authors aligned with this belief. And, St Paul asserted, "Let the Mind be in you that was in Christ".

You will, by being your Higher Self more often, become a new and improved edition of your self, living more from your Self than from your self. You will become even more in touch with your enduring, tranquil and balanced Inner Higher Self. You will find yourself doing things you love doing and carrying out your higher purpose with a sense of deep inner fulfillment. So effortless and joyfully - allowing yourself to attain your Higher Self as often as you can.

If you permit it, this Higher Self can direct and guide you toward positive, uplifting thoughts and experiences. Know that your Higher Self is always there to guide you every day. Each day, practice going within and sensing/feeling your Higher Self at least three times a day. In fact, a good affirmation to use is, "In every way, each and every day, I am guided by my Inner Higher Self." Acknowledging this fact can reassure you that you are being led lovingly, with trust and in faith on your journey through life, not just one day at a time, not merely one step at a time, but each moment at a time!

Opening your heart is key to this process. By showing compassion and loving-kindness to self and others, your self has the capability to transform into the Self. Change happens when you decide to do so, and it can cause your heart to open so you can share your kind and loving heart with the whole world. It's that simple, yet complex how peace happens, one person at a time. Often, though, what opens one person's heart closes another's heart.

Constantly, you need to remind your self to go to the Inner Sanctum of your mind to connect with your Higher Self/Intuition. This is necessary so that it keeps the flow of the Universe moving through you. By learning to be still, to contact, to listen to, and act upon your inner intuition, you can directly connect with the Higher Power of the entire universe, and allow it to become your guiding force. This does not happen automatically the minute you decide that's what you want; it takes practice to hear and trust your intuition. When you do learn to rely on this guidance and direction, life becomes more harmonious, almost effortless, and surely less of a struggle. Otherwise, life just becomes harder with intense tumultuous emotions to fill it.

A critical point from the book "Spiritual Growth" by Sanaya Roman who channels Orin, "If asking for guidance don't pay attention to answers you receive that are based in fear, for they are not from your Higher Self. Messages from your Higher Self will allow you to feel peaceful and balanced. Higher Self guidance is often subtle and quiet, and is frequently the message that follows the first one you hear. This quiet voice is always encouraging and positive."

One of the greatest challenges in spiritual growth is your personality, your ego. It can feel threatened by the increasing role your Higher Self plays in your life. It's going to try anything to hold you back, senseless mind chatter, negativity of all sorts, and derogatory statements. What to do? Send love to those thoughts and feelings. Explain to your personality that you intend to go forward on your chosen God-Track. And, it can either cooperate and discover an even more fabulous world as you become your Higher Self or get left behind. Making a new and deeper connection to your Higher Self can create a release of old patterns, further enhancing your Self and thus, your life. You see, the height of self-delusion is believing you don't have it in you. You have the Power of the Universe within you. You have God-Self-Confidence!

Cheryl, from Michigan, says, "Having had Multiple Sclerosis for almost thirty years, I've learned much about adapting and squeezing joy out of life. Therefore, I am a metaphysical minister who believes God is in everything, everywhere. And, the Sweet God-Spirit surely lives in my little Maya-puppy, who kept me connected with life after my youngest son was killed in a freak automobile accident ten years ago."
