A Spiritually Enlightening Online Magazine. January's Theme: "Path" Life, we often hear, is a journey along a path. Whither the path goes, no one knows — no one who has gone before will ever walk our exact path, so no one has ever had our exact trek. No travel guides, no preset destinations, no reservations, not even a Google map. It is a journey that only the most intrepid and brave among us would ever undertake in the physical world, but each and every one of us do so at the moment of birth and continue until death takes the physical body away.
Life is filled with choices. Some are huge and others small. Some carry a lot of weight and others none at all — and sometimes the small decisions carry far more weight than the huge ones.
Life is an adventure, a trek along unknown paths. A step or two down an obvious and well worn path that looks inviting may bring certain disaster and yet another fellow Life Adventurer can take that same path and know it's the right one. The same holds true of the narrow and brambly path that presents — the one that will tug at our clothes, tear at our skin, and make us wonder just why it is we've chosen to go the way we are. Some will turn back, others persevere — and only some of those choices will be the "right" one.
There have been times when I've seen through my inner eye that I stand upon a bluff and watch family and friends begin arduous parts of their journeys as they step into forests full of uncertainty. I thank my lucky stars that I'm not there, that I have this lovely vision of clarity and insight
only to find myself descending from my perch towards that same forest.
Here is where my meditation begins.
Close your eyes and relax your body. Allow yourself to be at ease in this moment. Take a deep breath in and then feel your breath as it releases from your lungs.
Visualize yourself sitting on a cloud above a beautiful meadow.
Breathe in and out and know that where you are in your life is perfect for you. If you feel lost and alone, the important thing to remember is that until you feel lost, you will never find yourself.
Now you need to see where you are. Breathe in and out and take a look around. What are your current priorities? What are your needs and what are your wants? What is the landscape of your path at the present moment? See the meadow below you changing as you answer these questions.
Breathe in and out again and look at your choices. What are the paths that are available? See the obvious ones and then look for the less conspicuous ones. Does it make sense perhaps not to move at all for the time being?
Breathe in and out and see that which blocks you and keeps you from making the choices you'd make otherwise. Breathe in and out again. Examine them. Some are there to keep you safe or to help direct you to a better path. Some are actually helpers and good things but you've yet to see them that way. And still others truly are things to be overcome — there has never been an adventure that is simply and solely a pleasant stroll in the park!
Breathe in and out and prepare yourself for the choice you are about to make. Each step on your path is a precious step and should never be taken lightly. So when stepping forth, step with all the strength and confidence you can muster behind it. And then assess and step (or not!) again.
Will it be the "right" choice? Will good things always come from a decision made with the best of intentions, the consideration of all the circumstances, and with the needs and wants of you and the Universe taken into account? Perhaps not immediately, but know that with each step, the hard ones and the easy ones, you are right where you need to be and will be after each and every step.
Take another deep breath and come back into your body
fully and completely, feeling refreshed and ready for your day.
Thank you for taking the step of reading this meditation. Now go ahead and take another!
