Let's Talk Tarot
~ Your Path ~

with Marcia McCord

"I have a real estate question."

When clients start out this way, I'm always ready to refer them to my friend B. G., an experienced and creative realtor. After all, real estate takes expertise and I want people to be sure to get the right information to make a good decision.

My client went on to describe her dilemma. She and her husband were working to develop a lot in the country as their retirement home but were encountering obstacle after obstacle. She wanted to know whether they should plunge ahead with the country property, especially since she was having second thoughts or cut their losses with the country property and stay where they live now, a place growing increasingly uncomfortable also.

Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.

What became clear during our talk was that my client wasn't really happy with either choice. Before the reading actually started, I pointed out what felt like the most obvious thing in her question: She was giving herself only two choices.

"Seriously, if you want to move but your country property feels like a Money Pit, tell me about what feels like the ideal possible alternative."

She began to paint a picture in words as she envisioned what might be possible. The reading including the choice of "something else" prompted good discussion. It seemed to help her make up her mind. And she also seemed freed by the thought that she wasn't stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, so to speak.

She sent an update to me a while back, saying that the reading really did help her and continues to. She said she might come for another reading soon, but that this first one continued to help her so much with her primary issue that she might not need another reading for a while. Truly, that's the best news she could have given me.

When you are unsure of your path and have spent sleepless nights (9 of Swords) feeling trapped (8 of Swords) on the horns of a logical dilemma (2 of Swords), your next step doesn't have to be the 3 of Swords, heartache. Try reversing that 2 of Swords and head back to the Ace of Swords, the original idea.

The original idea for my client was to find a happy location for retirement, somewhere pleasant, close enough to necessary services and not too difficult to maintain; these were some of her original requirements. See what else fits the answer to that question.

Instead of wrestling with the two difficult decisions, neither of which seems to be right, use the 2 of Wands for new inspiration. As in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, you stand upon your current foundation with your whole world in your hands. Your vision opens up to see many possibilities, not just one path. It's your choice whether you stay with what you have, select something from your past ideas or explore something completely different. You gain vision and confidence (3 of Wands) and, if it is your goal, a new foundation (4 of Wands) both stable and dynamic. You find your Path.

Best wishes.
