Walk Your Talk
with Aleesha Stephenson

Ever heard the saying, "You can't buy happiness"? Well, I'm here today to tell you, you definitely can!

If you are having a day, (or a life) of unhappiness filled with stress and well, even downright misery, I have a suggestion of a way to 'buy happiness'. Purchase a slice of joy, for not only yourself but also the kind of joy which is like the flu, it just keeps spreading.

Now this 'happiness' requires you to have money to spend; hence the term, 'buying happiness'. Start this project by going off to your favourite store(s) which sell pampering items. It can be your local grocery store, health food store; or let yourself be really indulgent and go off to one of the those stores which sell wonderful smells, like The Body Shop, Sage Aromatherapy or Lush.

Grab yourself one of those handy shopping baskets you can carry around, and fill it up with stuff that's indulgent. Everything from those expensive cocoas, hair clips, bath bombs, facials, and thick creamy hair conditioner… well, you get the idea.

Pop into one of your local 'discount dollar stores' and grab a few more items, including a gift bag or basket to put all your newly purchased treasures inside. Oh - and don't forget to include some candles in your shopping extravaganza!

Now for the last bit of shopping, go to your local florist. Grab a bouquet of something pretty! Don't skimp, 'cause let's face it, flowers always look better when in a large grouping.

Once you have everything safely tucked inside your gift bag, go to a store or restaurant you don't normally frequent. Even a gas station will do!

Now comes the fun part. You have a lot of options here. You can walk around with your package and find a mom with enough room in her arms to manage your 'happiness' or you can go inside and gift that wonderful woman behind the counter with your treasures.

Just walk up to them and tell them money does buy happiness and you can prove it. Hand them the 'happiness' and say, "today my money was well spent because I bought a smile from you!" Then, just turn and walk away. Don't stick around for them to gush over you, that's not the point of this. Let their bubbling joy just spill out all over the place. As you leave… you are taking a huge slice of their joy with you; but don't worry, it's a never-ending kind of joy! They are going to spill it over everyone else who comes into contact with them and the really truly cool part is… it doesn't stop in that moment of that day; it continues on, each and every time either one of you remembers it.

How's that for buying happiness? So the next time someone says, "money can't buy happiness" perhaps you can show them how it truly can!

Now I would be completely lacking as a fellow-happiness-giver if I didn't point out the obvious here. First, if you wish to bless a man with your gift, just make sure to purchase stuff more appropriate for a male. And second, you can, of course, create a package from as low as $10 and upwards… so 'happiness' can be at a bargain price, it doesn't have to cost much at all!

So the next time you are feeling low, and wishing your life was different… step up to the plate my friend, make your (and someone else's) day different! Then tomorrow, choose to make it different as well - because we all know, we only have today. Yup, right now, this moment in time… it's all we have. Once spent, the moment cannot be re-bought. It's gone. So make the most of each and every moment you have and perhaps even a moment which doesn't belong to you like a stranger's moment.
