About The Cover
Le Grande Chat

beaded by Boo
AKA Elizabeth Abernathy

This piece was created between April 2003 and July of 2004 in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest. The original stuffed body was sent to me by some friends from an art group I belong to, as a way to keep me busy and in bed after an unexpected surgery. His winking face is the first sculpted cabochon I'd attempted at the time. It's made from a blend of gold and translucent polymer clays, and the eyes are hand painted and glazed. The individual whiskers were drilled after the face had been cured and attached to the body. I spent many long, therapeutic hours working on him… somewhere between 175 and 200, as near as I can tell. Most of the time I spent beading was a desperate attempt to keep my mind off the fact that I'd been unfairly fired from a position I loved and where I excelled. Working on my kitty was a way to distract myself from the pain I was feeling.

The joy I found in beading this piece, and the response I received when I posted his picture to my friends literally changed my life! Now, I spend my time at home with my family, and creating art dolls in league with a couple of amazingly talented friends, Lisa Polston, and Carol Nichols. Custom dolls can be inquired about by emailing with a note about beaded work in the subject line. Our current project is a large piece called Green Man, and will be chronicled online as we progress. Le Grande Chat is now available for sale to a private collection. Contact the artist for serious inquiries only.

I also have a web page which profiles some of what I offer to my clients: Brigid's Cauldron.
