Walk Your Talk
with Aleesha Stephenson

My sister has the most wonderful phrase - "I love you, regardless". She says it to me whenever she doesn't necessarily agree with my actions or decisions - or when I just plain screw up! She sends me an email saying "I love you, regardless… regardless of your faults, regardless of your choices, regardless of whether or not I agree with you… I love you."

So the phrase, "I love you, regardless" has great meaning for me. It shows me a different kind of love which isn't held captive by how well I live up to someone else's standards. Rather it just accepts me as I am… human with human faults and frailties. I'm not perfect nor do I desire to be. I just want to learn from my mistakes and experience as much love and life as I possibly can before I - once again - return to spirit and into the energy of the God and the Goddess.

So many people get caught up in expectations and conditions… they forget to see the person as they truly are, in this moment, and to honour the divinity within them. Instead they place them in a category and force them to live that role… no matter how hard the person may be attempting to change. This happens most often in families, but it also happens in the school system and in the work force as well. You get pigeonholed and no matter how hard you try to break free… you can't seem to do it.

If only they just loved you regardless. If only they didn't keep the score of how many times you messed up. If only they celebrated each step on your path with you, rather than judging your choices and decisions.

Wouldn't this world be a better place if there were more "I love you, regardless"?
