The Da Vinci Code
Dan Brown
ISBN#: 0-385-50420-9

I've just finished reading this novel for the second time, and all I can say is WOW - what a great, gripping tale!

Dan Brown's writing style brings his characters to life in such an intimate way, involving the reader so deeply in the story you can almost feel the cool marble floors of the Louvre Museum in Paris as you walk with the hero, Robert Langdon, into the centre of one of the greatest mysteries of all time.

The clues are all around you - hiding in plain sight - wrapped up in the history of one of Da Vinci's masterpieces, The Mona Lisa; in secret societies whose memberships span the globe, in the intricate workings of The Roman Catholic Church and a conspiracy theory of gigantic proportions!

It's been quite a few years since a novel has roused such controversy in the general population, fuelled hotly by dire warnings of "heresy" by the Catholic Church.

Obviously "the sacred feminine" is a very sore subject for them; and as Dan Brown postulates Mary Magdalene as not only the wife of Jesus, but mother of his children (hence the "Sang Real" or "royal bloodline of Jesus") well… I'm sure the makers of the movie are going to be just raking in the cash at the box office!

Most books don't 'grab me' - but this one sure does. I couldn't put it down until the very last page. Not even the second time around. If you haven't read it, please do - and no - I will not reveal the ending. You'll have to discover it for yourself. Read the book - (and then go see the movie!)

The Da Vinci Code has a permanent place in my library, and is a book I shall re-read every year - and if you're a mystery lover, an historian, or are intrigued by dark secrets - I know you'll love it as much as I do!
