In my opnion, the key to heaven is putting my life, my problems, my worries, my stresses all into perspective. Yes I know, there sure is a lot of "my" in that sentence.

So often I listen to people, focusing on themselves, on their 'stuff'. Complaining about this and that, focusing on the negatives in their day rather than the positives (regardless of how few and far those moments of light may have seemed).

Just to put things into perspective for you all… thousands of women are raped every day. Babies lie in their parent's arms, with life-threatening diseases. Drunken teenagers and adults alike get behind the wheel of a vehicle and take, not only their own life, but the lives of everyone else on the road (and the sidewalk) into the palm of their hand and recklessly disregard how precious each one of their lives are (yes, even the person who's drunk is precious!)

Wars are happening all over the world… innocent people dying from stray bullets and limbs being blown off by bombs…

Closer to home for many of us are the homeless children, living in poverty dreaming of a hot meal and warm bed for the night. Of course not all children living in poverty are without homes so let's not forget them!

People are struggling to overcome addictions, fighting to survive their injuries, dreaming of a cure for their illness… all over the world, every moment of every day this is happening…

So the next time you want to complain about the line moving too slowly at the supermarket or what someone said to you that seemed rude… please stop for a moment, take a deep breath and remember how many people could use your positive, loving energy directed towards them.

Take your negative energy and turn it around. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Get a bag and fill it up with food, giving it to someone in need, or donate it to your local food bank. Take that $4.55 you were going to pay for a Mocha and send it, along with a few more dollars to Heifer.org and make a real difference in the lives of people who are in need.

Allow yourself to hand out 'keys to heaven' to people who could really really REALLY use one…

And then go to bed with the knowledge that today… instead of just living your life, focusing on yourself and your immediate loved ones… you touched another person with grace.

You are precious. You are special. You are unique. You can make a difference in this world… you simply need to try. No college degrees neccessary. Just… desire.
