Walk Your Talk
with Aleesha Stephenson

Attitude. This word conjures up so many different connotations. Having a teenager and an almost teenager living in my home brings up a few more. *laughing*

I find that my attitude in any given moment changes everything around me. If I'm in a grumpy mood and I allow my grumpiness to flow onto others, they in turn gift it right back to me, usually excalating my mood to new heights. But, if I take a deep breath and remember that my attitude shouldn't be tossed over others like a wet blanket - and I focus instead on being loving and positive - other people respond accordingly.

The other day I was at work and a customer came in. She found out I am a Reiki Master/Teacher and began quizzing me on whether or not I really am one. She wanted to know who attuned me, what lineage I am under etc. After she left I was completely annoyed with her. I found her to be rude and a few other adjectives I won't share here.

What was interesting though is my work-mate found her to be delightful! She went on and on about what a nice person she was, how much she enjoyed speaking with her… how she hoped she'd return again at a later date.

What a difference in attitude about this person. I couldn't care if I ever saw her again (that's not entirely true… I'd rather not see her again) and she was hoping for another visit soon!

This goes for everyone in our life. Just because we don't like someone, it doesn't make them bad, wrong, annoying etc. It just makes our experience in this moment our truth (or does it?). Being open to allowing our attitude to change at a later date is a gift we give ourselves.

After all, I know for certain that I'm not the person I was 20 years ago - heck I'm not the same person I was 3 years ago! I'm constantly evolving, changing, growing. Some of these changes I keep and others I try and discard. Who knows how many people I've met during one of my try and then discard phase who may not like me because of whatever I was trying. It would be sad to think that if we met again I wouldn't get a second chance as the person I am in this moment. So on that note, I will be sure to give the customer I mentioned earlier another chance - after all, we both deserve the opportunity to shine!

Ah attitude… we all seem to have so much of it… and so much of it is wasted on things which, in the grand scheme of things, matter little.
