Walk Your Talk
with Aleesha Stephenson

I am proud of myself!

(There! I said it out loud, online, for everyone to see and hear.)

I am proud of myself.

Isn't it odd how we are raised to be modest - yet we are also raised to 'achieve greatness'? It's so hypocritical. If we stand up tall and share with others just how proud we are of our achievements we are viewed as being egotistical when, in my opinion, so many of us could desperately use a good wholesome honest shot of self-esteem-raising pride!

Perhaps your butter tarts are the best ones you've ever made or you have overcome an obstacle which had you stressing out - overwhelmed with fear - but you managed to do it anyway. Maybe you started taking a walk after dinner every night and you are actually getting out of the house and doing it. All of these are huge! Definitely worthy of celebrating!

The next time you find yourself completing a task - of which you are proud - look at yourself in the mirror and smile. Look into your eyes and tell yourself how proud you are of YOU! Pat yourself on the back - share your achievement with someone you love. Allow yourself to be proud.

Because regardless of what you were raised to believe, by your parents and peers… it is not wrong to be proud of your achievements. It's wrong to minimize and ignore them, pretending 'anyone could have done it'. Well not just anyone did do it. You did it!!!

So here's a word to each one of you who are diminishing your achievements…

Stand up and be proud! Feel your self-esteem swell up - you may even find yourself smiling more and walking taller!

Congratulations!

much light,
