![]() Raymond Buckland ISBN #: 0-7387-0053-3 As the alchemists of old reportedly transmuted baser metals into gold, so these oracle cards of personal transformation can help us view our probable future. They can show us ways in which we can change our future, and ourselves, if we feel we are not on the path we desire. The 50-card deck is divided into five suits of 9 cards each: Alembic; representing love, Tree; representing health, Retort; representing wealth, Egg; representing protection, and Athanor; representing power. Each of the suits is then divided into three levels: Puffer, Initiate and Adept. The remaining cards are wild cards, aligned with Earth, Spirit, Air, Water and Fire, and represent powerful forces at work. Each card contains an illustration from an old alchemical text or manuscript, a representation of the universe with the sun and planets revolving around the earth, the suit and suit number, the level, a keyword, a gemstone and the symbols for two planets. Please don't let all the symbols keep you from purchasing these cards; the companion book makes the deck very easy to read. While there is a short introduction to alchemy and the alchemists, the majority of the book is devoted to the individual cards. The book also includes several spreads and useful indexes of colour and number symbolism. Those who study alchemy and/or astronomy will find layer upon layer of meaning. I've recently gone through some major changes in my life, and while the tarot predicted the changes, it was the Cards of Alchemy, which most helped me understand them, and to prepare for the future.
