Walk Your Talk
with Aleesha Stephenson

There are so many ways to increase movement in our lives. We have physical movement, like belly dancing (one of my personal favorites!), walking, cleaning the house (not one of my personal favorites!), chasing our kids around, moving to a new home etc. There's spiritual movement, when we decide to change, alter or toss out what it is we believe in and instead embrace another 'way'. There's emotional movement, allowing our blockages and fears to fall away and live life in the moment without them. Of course we can't forget mental movement. Learning something new by taking a course, reading up on a new interest or learning to speak another language!

Personally, I really like the idea of assisting myself to create movement daily. To meditate, dance, magick and learn… on a conscious level in order to remove and reduce any stagnation within my being.

Right now I'm learning about snakes and spiders. I believe that if I have a fear about something, it's best to learn about it, educate myself, remove the blanket of the unknown… because it is within THAT moment of awareness - my fears fall away. To understand something, respect it and allow it to "be" allows me to fill myself with light rather than fear. Because in my experience most fear is unrealistically based. There are things we can be cautious of and perhaps fearful of, but as we remove the unrealistic ones we find the less fear we "wear" the less powerful the other fears become!

These are examples of a conscious choice for movement… but we also have the unconscious choices we make every day.

I believe by changing the conscious choices, our unconscious choices change as well.

An example comes to mind from a recent conversation with one of my students. She was having a hard time with a gossip in her workplace. She disliked listening to her but didn't want to be rude and didn't know how to handle the situation. She really wanted to move away from this behaviour! I suggested she politely say to the person, "Sorry I have work to do." and then turn and walk away. If you aren't there, you can't be part of perpetuating the gossip! When we choose to gossip about others, you know how it feels! Especially the constant cutting others down or 'rip 'em apart till they bleed' gossip. I believe this is ego. When we are gossiping about others, our unconscious ego feels better about ourselves. If we can make them look "less than" then within our unconscious self we are "more than". Removing gossip from our lives allows every one else and ourselves to "be" and also allows us to live our lives to a higher potential. Because all that dragging down energy gets mixed in with our energy and soon we are feeling dragged down too. So if you are one of those people who just love to share everyone else's dirt and pick others apart… perhaps it's time to stop this behaviour and replace it and move on!

Remember with each change, each movement we create, we can allow ourselves to celebrate and embrace life within each moment of every day.

I wish you great things today… and tomorrow… and the day after that!

in light,
Aleesha
