Wiccan Voices
with Crystal Blanton

We have moved into a new year that is numerically gauged to give us new opportunities and options by restarting our lives and resetting new patterns. The outgoing year was one of extreme frustration at times and much-needed closures at others. This, too, is a part of the numerological aspect of the number 9, wrapping up loose ends and working towards closures which will lead to new beginnings.

While 2009 was a great catalyst to change in 2010, it is also a misleading tag line for what could be a symbol of complacency since the thoughts of turmoil are behind us. The past year was plagued with so much pain and confusion that the hype and expectation of the New Year was almost like the advertisement behind the newest big blockbuster movie. Ironically though, 2010 will not be as simple as going into a movie and watching the action unfold before you. Instead you will have to put in just as much energy into the coming year as you did in the old year; don't let the hype fool you.

The concept of progress is a delicate balance between action and inaction. Too much inaction could leave someone stagnant and unable to progress to the next phase of growth. Action appears to be the one answer for moving forward and in many ways it is, but too much action can cause a momentum so fast that you miss the opportunities you are leaving behind. Like with light and dark, action and inaction require balance to gain productive manifestation in life and within a set of circumstances.

Pushing our energy towards wanting to move forward and wanting to stop and smell the roses is exactly how we as Wiccans and Pagans approach ritual, but many times we have a harder time approaching life in the same way. Walking into ritual we are pushing progression with energy and setting a course for our future; but while in ritual we are observing the energies, aligning with our intent and breathing the essence of deity. This balance supports the workings of ritual magic and in turn helps to acknowledge the balance in our own beings that we are acknowledging in the universe and within deity. We have become accustomed to the fact that ritual workings are not just about the work but also about the beautiful energetic union with the elements, deity and the universe.

This is how we should all remember to walk into 2010, leading our lives like we lead ritual. Walking into life with an agenda or goals, knowing we have the power to make necessary changes and appreciating the gentle balance of energies we are encountering. Embracing the moments could make the difference between fulfillment and routine.

As numerology shows us, cycles are important to the movement of energy and the life/death/rebirth cycle presents itself in all aspects of life. Although the 10 is a representation of closure of the cycle, the 10 added together equals 1 and sets the beginning of a new cycle. The ebb and flow between action and inaction could result in the difference between starting a new cycle or carrying over your old one.

Seize the opportunity and lead your energy to the manifestation you want to see. The universe has given you a blank canvas to work with and your imagination is the paint. Finding success in our future endeavors will be a direct result of how efficiently each of us is able to find the balance and push forward to action when we need to and fall back into inaction when possible. May you find your balance and push forward to the things that you want in your life.

May we hear the infinite opportunities knocking at our doors.
