Illuminations
An Editorial by Aleesha Stephenson

The word 'root' has so many meanings, and so many different approaches can be made to explain it.

We work at getting to the 'root' of a situation.

In Canada, there's "Roots®" clothing.

'To root' in Australian slang is to have sex.

There are 'root' vegetables and 'roots' on vegetables.

This is what this issue of Timeless Spirit is all about. Getting to the 'root' of… well… 'root!'

I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as I've enjoyed putting it together - 'cause this is a wonderful one. MAGI'S MAGICK SPELLS

We have David Suzuki talking about the importance of our soil and the 'root' systems of our forests. Lynne Gordon-Mündel has written an insightful piece reminding us of our inter-dependence with all life. Dawn Baumann-Brunke has joined us as a regular columnist, "Lifetalks" and is sharing a conversation she had with a cactus. Then we have a review of the wonderful DVD "Baraka" - an experience for anyone who wishes to truly live on this planet.

I have shared my personal meditation which I use with my young daughter to assist her to calm herself when she's feeling out of control. I hope this meditation can help other children (and their parents) to become empowered.

We also have a letter writing campaign in this issue. This is not something we will normally do here at TSM but TD Canada Trust® has begun an advertising promotion in which baby bottles are being used to signify 'families'. As a mother, with 10 years of breastfeeding experience, this issue has touched me deeply. So please take a moment to enlighten yourself about this situation and perhaps get involved in removing these images from TD Canada Trust®.

Something else close to my heart is the "Donation" page of our magazine. If you enjoy the hours of work we all put into each issue of TSM please take a moment to make a small donation to one of the organizations highlighted on our Donation page. Everything in life needs an exchange and we welcome our exchange with you as a donation to one of these worthwhile charities.

Follow our bottom right-hand-corner flowers and flow from one page to the next - experiencing the issue in its entirety is a wonderful journey indeed.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say good-bye and thank-you to Toria Betson, for her wonderful work here at TSM; and to welcome Seva Kourzis to our staff (She joined our staff a few months ago, so it's actually a late welcome).

The staff here at TSM are the 'root' of the magazine. The writers share their work - but it is the staff who makes them shine! Creating the graphics, hand coding etc., is my job; but then Magi copy edits their work and then Toria, Seva, Magi and I come along and check and double-check everything within the pages of this magazine to bring you, the reader, the best (hopefully error-free) publication we can!

So let's have a nice round of applause for Toria, Seva and Magi - because without them, I wouldn't be able to give you such beautifully polished issues!

much light,
Aleesha

PS Elizabeth Abernathy is absent this issue due to a family emergency, but she'll be back next issue to share with your all again. May the Goddess watch over her during this time.
