Overcoming Our Blockages to Healing

Why does Reiki or any other form of healing work so well sometimes and then other times, doesn't seem to do anything at all? Why is it someone can regain their sight from 15 minutes of Reiki and another person who has session after session doesn't seem to be healing?

Your life path, your lessons and how ready you are to let go of your dis-ease plays a huge part in the process of healing. If you have learned everything you need to from your dis-ease and you are ready, willing and able to move on in this lifetime to learn other lessons, then the dis-ease will be healed. If it's your life path to experience this dis-ease and live within its constraints, then you will not be healed, although your symptoms may be lessened. Other times, we just aren't ready to let go of the perks of being ill. The price we pay by being sick is enormous, but the return is too high to give up, so we stay sick.

It's a part of being human - wanting attention. Just like children, if they can't get positive attention, they will take negative attention. So they misbehave to get the attention they crave. Being sick works much the same way. If we aren't getting attention from being healthy then some people choose subconsciously to get attention from illness.

If there's a room full of people and someone comes in and is obviously not well, people go to check if they are okay and if there's anything they can do for them. Children learn this tool very early in life, knowing if they say they aren't feeling well then they can lay on the couch, sipping juice and watching their favorite movies with their Mom coming in every few minutes to see if they need anything, or she sits with them and strokes their hair etc. Often it feels good to be sick.

Other more debilitating dis-eases can work the same way. The attention from it can feed us in a way no other part of our lives do. Yes, the dis-ease keeps us from doing things but it also gives us so much attention, pity and 'perks' we just can't let it go. All forms of dis-ease can fall within this category from emotional to physical. This is not a judgement of who we are. Sometimes our dis-ease or dis-ability is a life lesson and simply cannot be healed in this lifetime. Other times, it may be a memory of a past life which we are still holding onto or perhaps, it's merely a mirror of the dis-ease within our life. Whatever the cause, it's important to discover the roots of our dis-ease if we want to heal this part of ourselves.

Dis-ease in our bodies often has a direct connection to the dis-ease in our life. For example: I am afraid to make changes in my life so I begin having difficulites with my feet (afraid to take the next step). I may need to talk to someone about a problem and because I have kept my silence, my throat is sore as my throat chakra responds to the limitations placed on it. If I'm attempting to control everything in my life, I may find my bowels are no longer 'releasing' as they should be. Looking to our bodies and seeing the connection to our lives is a powerful tool in releasing dis-ease.

When we desire to make changes in our lives, it's important to ask ourselves what we 'get' from having our dis-ease and what we would need to give up by letting it go. Making a list of pros and cons is a good start, but I find writing a 5-page letter to our bodies sharing about our dis-ease works even better. By the second page your mind is opening up to possibilities it never thought of releasing to you. So much can be learned from this process.

Take 5 sheets of unlined paper and a pencil. Sit down where you can be undisturbed. Light a candle and set it near you. I suggest you don't have music playing or any other distractions. Start writing a letter to your body and allow yourself to write. Don't read back what you are writing. Just allow a continuous flow. You can even write, "I don't know why I'm writing" over and over again until the words and thoughts start to flow onto your page. When you are done, go have a cleansing bath or shower, do not re-read your letter yet. After your shower feed yourself some healthy nourishing food and drink a glass of water. This shows your body you love it and appreciate the sharing it has done with you today.

After you have cleansed and fed your body, sit back down with your candle and read, out loud, what your sub-conscious mind has released onto the pages. You may be very surprised to find things there you didn't even realize you had written!

Finding the root of our dis-ease is powerful. Once you know the 'why' behind it, you can better work with yourself to overcome it. Be gentle with yourself, as blaming yourself for your dis-ease is just creating a negative cycle in itself. So rather than trying to find blame for your dis-easeā€¦ open yourself up to the root instead.
