An Editorial by Aleesha Stephenson

As I sit here, changing the coding for the issue and adding in 2 new columnists, I notice we are Volume 4 - Issue 4. If I believed in coincidences I would say having a theme of Balance with such well-balanced numbers would be one!

I always find it interesting the way the current theme correlates with my own life. I choose the themes for each issue a year in advance in order to find writers, review items and cover art to all blend together in the symbiotic dance which makes this magazine so special. So when my life begins to focus on the same issues as the theme… well to me it says that I was on the right track when I chose the theme for this issue!

I moderate for a few forums. I really love forums. They're a great way to share information, ask questions and receive answers without having to read reams of books or pages on the Internet. It's also a great way to meet new people and create lasting friendships. Last year I began moderating on a forum which, in my opinion, was one of the friendliest places I had ever visited on the web. I didn't have a desire to moderate any more groups than I already did, as my life was very full with all my current obligations and passions, but this group was just such a friendly place that I just had to say yes when they asked.

Becoming a moderator twisted and turned this forum-experience around for me. It ceased to be a friendly joyful experience; instead I found it created imbalance in my life. I thought in my naivety that shining my light, being even more positive and loving would bring about balance but unfortunately, it didn't work. As I began finding myself unhappier every day, I realized moderating for this forum was not for me. I quietly stepped down, but I learned an important lesson from this experience and for that, I will always be thankful.

When we work or live in a negative environment, it affects us… deeply. It's very hard to find balance when one aspect of your life is so out of kilter with what you believe in, what you strive for… your passion. It begins to affect other areas of your life. For me, I found myself 'short' with my family and my experiences were less fulfilling. It completely took me by surprise - just how much one negative aspect of my life could bleed over into all the others. Since I left, my life has come back into balance again. My passion for joy has returned!

So I invite you all to take a good look at your life. See if you have an area where negativity thrives and see if you can do without it. If it's a job, perhaps you can transfer to another department or look elsewhere for work. If it's a volunteer position, like moderating a forum, then perhaps it's time to step down and find something else more loving to fill that area of your life. If it's in a relationship maybe therapy or good old-fashioned communication can help. If it's within your own family… putting in the time and effort to create change for you and your loved ones will bring about benefits in the years to come and it is definitely worth every ounce of energy you put it into it now.

Bring balance into your life. Remove the dead weight off the teeter-totter so you can move gently to an equilibrium and inspire your passion to bring yourself more joy! I did and I can tell you all… every single day I wake up and smile, knowing I'm not part of that cycle of negativity. I love my life and I love saying it, and meaning it every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I wake.

As I briefly mentioned at the beginning of this illumination, we have two new columnists joining us. Jean Hofve, DVM has been writing with Timeless Spirit for years now and has agreed to share her wisdom with us on a regular basis in "Pet-sense". Janet Alston Jackson has also written for us in the past and we are honoured to have her on board as a columnist in "Being Mindful". Welcome aboard Jean and Janet, we look forward to reading you both!

Enjoy this issue folks. I hope it inspires you to create more balance in your life just as it has for me.
