Chia Seeds
The Raw Food World

Mmm… Chia Seeds. I know… I know you are thinking… but what about my Chia Pet when I was a kid, you mean I'm supposed to eat it's hair? Yup, that's exactly what I'm saying!

Chia seeds are so good for you. They have twice the protein of any other seed or grain, five times the calcium of milk, boron (a trace mineral which transfers calcium into your bones), Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats! I add these wonderful little seeds to my green smoothies, my salads, my crackers (before I dehydrate them). I add them to my icecream, all my desserts and if I'm feeling a little dehydrated and need to go out for a bit, I take a spoonful of soaked seeds and slurp them down!

Got an acidy tummy? Take a tablespoon of dried seeds and wait 5 minutes. Then drink a large glass of water. The seeds will actually soak up the acid in your stomach and relieve your pain!

Here's some more ideas of what you do with these wonderful little seeds.

Put them in a jar, add water and give them a shake. Wait 15 minutes and shake again and then put the jar into the fridge. They will last 3 weeks. During this time, add them to:

  • smoothies
  • salads
  • desserts
  • soups

Of course you can also use them dry, but be sure to drink lots with them as they absorb lots of water.

  • take banana slices and dip them in chia seeds - eat
  • same with apple slices
  • sprinkle on vegetable salads and fruit salads

Or you can simply take a spoonful of soaked chia seeds and swallow them down as they will rehydrate you. Good to do before working out or a run!

These inexpensive little seeds are really a must-have for everyone. Add some to your diet - trust me, you won't taste a thing!
