Illuminations
An Editorial by Aleesha Stephenson

Welcome to the first issue of our second year!!! It's hard to believe we are already here, celebrating our Anniversary! So, since this is such a eclectic publication, we thought sharing our 'unique perspectives' would be a great theme!

Our first issue had 3,600 readers and we are so pleased to share that our last issue (Sept. 2004) had 8,700 readers! With growth like this - it shows us all that our love for this magazine is shared by many others!

This issue of Timeless Spirit is one of my favorites. I just love the unique perspective our writers are blessing us with. From Elizabeth Abernathy's son Casimir who is writing on what it's like to grow up in a 'witchy home' to Derek Wilken's Toastmaster Speech on the statistics for homeless people (very very funny) which he has generously allowed us to publish - to Charlene Enns thoughts on choosing to NOT use her uterus. We have a great diverse group of writers sharing their uniquely personal thoughts.

Another must read in this issue is David Reber's interview of Elizabeth Abernathy… if you wanna get to know our wonderful resident witch a bit better, this is the (fun to read) profile for you!

Theo Georgina Tigger's cover image of her girlfriend who became her male friend - complete with a current photo of her friend sets the issue up for an opportunity to look at life from a state of mind which is unique and perhaps even better than 'the norm'.

So come on a journey with us - view our unique perspectives and perhaps you'll see that we aren't so unique after all.

Before I close this 'illumination' I would like to take a moment to share what it is I am thankful for. In Canada our Thanksgiving is in October and in the USA it's in November… so I feel this is good time for all of us to stop and take stock of what it is which we are most thankful for.

I am thankful for my life. Having a husband, a house, security… this brings me great peace of mind after being a single mom for 12 years, moving from basement suite to basement suite.

I am thankful for our health. After going to the cancer clinic for Dave's tests a few weeks ago… seeing all those people with such great suffering… it reminded me how blessed we are.

I am thankful for my jobs. I love assisting people to welcome a new pet into their home. Seeing their faces as they choose that puppy, kitten, fish or yes, even snake… and knowing this pet will bring them an unconditional love which is unique and precious. For an animal to give up it's freedom for us… is huge in my opinion. I am also thankful for this magazine as it gives a venue for writers and readers alike to broaden their minds and live their lives with greater balance.

I am thankful for every opportunity I have to teach Reiki. It is so beautiful to see someone embrace this healing, loving, energy into their being and knowing I am a conduit for this growth brings tears of joy to my eyes.

I am thankful for the support I receive in my life. My mom, hubby and children all support me in everything I do and cherish my successes with me. When my little 5 yr old told me she was so proud of me for getting my job at my local petstore… it touched my heart so deeply. Having my family celebrate each and every issue as it goes online brings a sense of fulfillment into my soul.

And finally, I am very thankful for my connection to the divine. Without it, everything else would be less than.

much light,
Aleesha
