Rolfing in Motion; A Guide to Balancing Your Body
Written and narrated by Mary Bond
90-minute Compact Disc
ISBN#: 1-59477-074-3

Mary Bond was a student of Ida Rolf, the creator of Rolfing. Rolfing is a method of manipulating the body into alignment and balance, by balancing the body's components, until the entire body works as a coordinated whole. This is done by a trained Rolfer, through a series of ten Rolfing sessions. Less known, is that late in her life Ida Rolf designed a series of movements one could do at home.

The CD, Rolfing in Motion, presents 38 structural awareness exercises featured in Mary Bond's book, Balancing Your Body.

In a soothing, gentle voice, Mary Bond helps us become aware of our own breathing, structural, and movement patterns. I immediately found myself thinking about my structural balance throughout the day; as I walked up hill to get the mail, as I rose from my chair, and while sitting at the computer.

She then helps us re-educate our bodies through breathing, relaxation, and efficient movement. These exercises work in a natural way; we learn by experiencing/feeling the differences, rather than by forcing our body into a 'correct' position or alignment.

I assume Ida Rolf intended Rolfing Movement to be used along with or after being aligned by a Rolfing practitioner, but I found this CD to be of great value on its own.

While I still have a long way to go toward balance and fluidity of movement, I am grateful for this CD, for how it has made me more mindful of my body, and how it moves.
