Seeds of Inspiration? Bah Humbug!
by Rev. Cheryl Jewett

As I sit here by my window watching the cottonwood fluff float by, I realize I've taken a momentary pause off my super-highway of seed-thoughts. So many thoughts rising and falling in my mind, racing past, it's almost enough to drive me crazy sometimes. Other seeds hover as though waiting for orders from headquarters. Which ones have the potential to bring me the happiness I seek? How do I decide which ones to give credence and attention to? My educated guess would be it depends upon my intention. What, among the gazillion topics in the Universe, do I choose to focus on? What kind of life do I wish to create? Abundant? Joyous? Or, needy and long-suffering? Oops, there goes my Ghost of Seed-Past popping up again. That stormy little sprite attempting to take centre stage away from my sunnier sprite, my Ghost of Seed-Present.

In the past, my mind had focused too much on fear. But then, I remind myself, I did the best I could for where I was physically and emotionally. My Ghost of Seed-Past was full of criticizing, condemning, and judging. But, how helpful is it to be so full of these negative traits? I continually look for encouragement to hold loving thoughts close to my heart; to reject a treadmill of tragedy and hate-seeds.

Today, my emphasis is to sow rosier seed-thoughts. Let's see now; where did I put those rose-colored glasses? Yet, do I need them, in my minute-by-minute struggle, to fend off that sneaky sprite blowing dark clouds under the door I closed upon it earlier? Is it something material I require, or simply a spiritual touchstone - a mantra, a prayer, an affirmation - that reminds me of the free will the God-Spirit gifted to me upon my birth? A free will to choose.

Yes, my Ghost of Seed-Present knows the importance of remaining in the Present Moment, knowing that's where my true power lies. Never mind regretting, resenting things in the past. Never mind speculating and projecting onto the future. My life motto is, Be Here Now. As the textual magician I now choose to be, I see the power of choice and the power of words merge to create my reality. Words can hurt and words can heal. Words can make war, and words can bring peace. Words being so powerful and symbolic do indeed embody the magic to transform people and situations.

By drawing aim at loving, gentle words, I make my life a living beacon of God's Divine Light, now and into infinity. Knowing that perception creates thoughts, and thoughts create feelings, I pay more attention to the words I use in my mind to describe my perceptions. I allow only comforting, healing words to enter my consciousness, and set me free; I seek only words that liberate me from divisiveness, hateful words. Yet, is this intention random? Is it affected by other people, situations, the weather, or my horoscope perhaps? Quite simply, my chosen intention is derived from my chosen attention; what I give my attention to, rides like a laser beam to the creation of my reality.

Now, my friends, I'll bet you've guessed my Ghost of Seed-Future. I say bah humbug to negativity of any kind. Be gone, I say, to the Scrooge-like words. My intentions are to pray for unbeknownst peace, love, and joy to this universe. Yours, mine, and ours. May the God-Spirit bless us all.
