How To: Do Psychic Readings Through Touch
Ted Andrews
ISBN #: 0-7387-0295-1

Possibly the largest obstacle most have in developing their psychic senses, is the belief that they don't have 'the gift'. Ted Andrews assures the reader that with practice, anyone can develop the skill of psychometry; psychic reading through touch.

"Everyone is psychic", says Andrews.

With a friendly, comfortable writing style, this popular and prolific writer eases the reader into realizing their own latent talents: talents for finding missing or lost items, tuning into someone by examining their photograph or touching an item they touched, sensing a room's history, and detecting energy imbalances within the body, mind and spirit.

This inexpensive, 272-page, paperback book from Llewellyn's How To: series, gently helps the beginner learn to trust their first impressions and to listen to those thoughts that are so easily brushed away.

The book begins by explaining how psychometry works. Auras are discussed, and quantum physic's 'holographic brain' theory is explored in the simplest of layman's terms.

Learning psychometry does take practice. Included are several exercises for groups and individuals. There are exercises to help relax breathing, meditations and exercises designed to help stimulate right brain activity and balance it with the left.

I particularly enjoyed the exercises designed to help us shift our consciousness by using optical illusions, and I found the exercises, which help activate the chakras in the hand, to be very effective in enhancing my sense of touch.

Empathy is discussed in great detail. While Andrew's writes about the gifts of empathy, such as its role in reading and healing others, he has also written of practical ways to control our empathetic responses and protect ourselves from holding onto, or being drained by, others' emotions.

There were a couple of times where I found myself a little annoyed at what seemed to be Andrew's criticisms of some other psychics, and unfortunately, this book does not contain an index, which makes it less useful as a quick reference.

I recommend this book as a real confidence builder, for those beginning to explore their psychic abilities.

Ted Andrews is a full-time author and teacher in the metaphysical and spiritual fields. A clairvoyant certified in spiritual mediumship, basic hypnosis, and acupressure, he is the author of several bestsellers, including Animal Speak and How to Meet and Work with Spirit Guides.
