About the Cover Steve Abernathy There are some cultures who believe that the Dream World is the real one, and that our conscious selves live in the dream state. An interesting thing to ponder when considering what is possible in dreams, where our fears take on form as do our wildest desires… This image is a manipulation of a photo of my daughter Marriah. The picture was taken as a reference for the cover image of her program for her senior project, a dance concert titled "Duality Dance." I felt that her placid and reverent expression was an appropriate place to start. Notice that her face is in black and white, while the dream depictions are in full and blazing colour, full of light, a further play on the idea that dreams are the real reality. I tried to balance the rigid, mechanical elements with the soft and organic ones, and her mind has wings. In searching for images of flowers, I came across the bee on the daisy, and thought it an appropriate analogy for her third eye. Although I worked to keep the image balanced, I really let it form itself. With almost random choices, I tried to keep the whole process as free and organic as possible, without a set picture in mind when I began. I hope that the finished piece works, and conveys its idea.
