Walk Your Talk
with Aleesha Stephenson

I'm always saying to my kids, "If you don't ask for what you want, people don't have the opportunity to say yes. They might say no, but they definitely don't have the opportunity to say yes!" Because of this my kids share their dreams, their wants and their hopes with me (and hopefully with others as well).

Recently my son contacted one of his skateboarding idols on facebook. He was so surprised when he got an enthusiastic message back. My son showed me the message and I contacted his idol and asked him if I could hire him to give my son some private lessons. Well, not only did my son get some great tips on how to do some of the tricks he's been working on, but he also received a wonderful confirmation of what I've been teaching him for years.

In my opinion, 'school-smarts' aren't all that important - unless that's where your passion is. I believe that if you do what you love - abundance will find you and assist you to live your passion. My son's idol told him the exact same thing. Whatever makes him happy… do it. Live it and allow his life to unfold as it will. If he changes his mind at anytime a G.E.D. or college education will always be available to him, cause learning doesn't magickally stop when we reach 18… it continues for our entire lives.

I have a friend who is going to college and has hired a tutor to assist her. She's not real great with studying and school but she really wants to get a degree in accounting. She's in her 40's! Just proves my point… we are never too old to learn!

I realized years ago that I had to release my belief of "you have to know what you want to be when you grow up before you grow up" - simply because I was grown up and still didn't know what I wanted to be. I was a mom but what else was I… who was I going to be?

Then my phone rang one day. A woman was on the other end and she told me she had read my website, loved the way I wrote and wanted to know if I'd write for her magazine. Within a year or two I was asked to be a guest editor and that was it… in that moment I found my passion - what I wanted to be, what I wanted to do. I wanted to publish a magazine. I wanted to gather writers together and share their vision, their words with other people. I called up the publisher of the magazine I guest edited for and asked if I could continue. I told her I wanted to shine my light on other people and she said YES, I was hired on as her production editor… and now here I am, over 7 years later - publishing my own magazine, still living my passion - still loving it.

So please don't stop dreaming! Keep letting other people know what you want in life, what you need in life… because if you don't speak it out loud, no one has the opportunity to grant your wish!
